Equipo Navazos: A Trade Tasting with Eduardo Ojeda

Equipo Navazos: A Trade Tasting with Eduardo Ojeda
Wednesday 4th November | 7.30pm | Special Wine Trade Price £25
A deep dive into one of the most compelling projects in the world of Sherry and traditional Andalusian wines.
We are honoured to welcome Eduardo Ojeda, legendary Sherry aficionado, winemaker and co-founder of Equipo Navazos, for an exclusive trade tasting exploring the depth, complexity and individuality of some extraordinary wines from our cellar.
Founded in 2005 by Eduardo Ojeda and Jesús Barquín, Equipo Navazos began with the discovery of exceptional, largely overlooked casks resting in the bodegas of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. What started as a project among a small circle of Sherry enthusiasts has become one of the most influential independent bottling projects in the region, bringing renewed attention to the remarkable diversity of traditional Andalusian wines.
At the heart of the project is ‘La Bota’, a series of individually numbered, limited bottlings selected from specific casks and soleras. Each release offers a snapshot of a particular wine at a particular moment, with detailed information on provenance, source bodega and saca (the date on which the wine is drawn from the cask for bottling).
This transparency allows for a more nuanced understanding of wines often obscured by the conventions of traditional Sherry production, inviting comparisons between successive releases and revealing the evolution of individual soleras over time.
Beyond the familiar
Equipo Navazos' work explores the full spectrum of traditional Andalusian winemaking, from biologically aged Finos and Manzanillas to the oxidative complexity of Amontillados, Palo Cortados and Olorosos. Its interests also extend beyond fortified wines, exploring the potential of Palomino Fino and Pedro Ximénez through site-specific, unfortified expressions and collaborations with producers across Spain.
The relationship between grape variety, vineyard, soil and ageing is central to this work. From the albariza soils of the Sherry region to the distinct conditions of Montilla-Moriles, Equipo Navazos continually challenges the boundaries between appellation, tradition and contemporary wine culture.
The team's approach favours character, precision and authenticity over standardisation, with careful selections, limited bottlings and minimal intervention allowing each wine to retain its individual identity.
Equipo Navazos’ curiosity extends well beyond the traditional Sherry bodegas, with collaborations that explore the intersection of Andalusian winemaking and other regions, grapes and philosophies. From Navazos-Niepoort, their project with Portuguese winemaker Dirk Niepoort, to Colet-Navazos with Catalan sparkling-wine producer Sergi Colet, these partnerships challenge conventional boundaries and explore the potential of Palomino, albariza and the influence of flor beyond traditional fortified wines.
Other projects, including Casa del Inca, OVNI and Navazos-Palazzi, further reflect the team’s commitment to uncovering distinctive expressions of place across wines and spirits. United by a shared spirit of curiosity, precision and collaboration, these projects demonstrate how the knowledge and traditions of the Sherry region can inspire new perspectives on winemaking far beyond its borders.
